Fortune Cookie Note for April 21, 2008

Today’s fortune cookie note reads:

“You are tasting the sweets of success.”

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the concept of success. This fortune cookie note bears a bit of significance to me as I got this one sometime after I started a new job. What I don’t like about the concept of success is how the media misconstrues it to mean “lots of money and toys.” What I like about success is the feeling of accomplishment I get when I succeed on my own terms, not what society dictates to me as the meaning of success. Though I may not have much money, I think I am a success with maintaining close relationships with the people I love. But, I still have other goals to accomplish.

  1. Success is only real when it is something that we really want, rather then a fake desire implanted by society in general and the media. If you figure out what this personal definition is then you can take steps toward it everyday. Otherwise you end up going around in circles
